removing a hightop roof

Post by gavin_ware »

I own a converted t25 camper which was formerly a van. It has a hightop roof which from just a short distance looks like a freak wave has deposited an upturned boat. I want to remove it and have a flat roof of some kind - as I want to create a stealth camper as I'm using the van for work now.

Is this possible??

What can I do to make/buy a flat roof????

If I remove the roof would it be possible to drive it to the garage once I have removed the roof?

Thanks!

Are you wanting a pop top or a tin top? Pop top conversion would probably be easier and their quite "stealth" looking. Probably end up breaking even if you sold your hightop and bought a poptop.

Hi Gavin.

Take a look at this thread on the JK forum
http://www.justkampers.com/forum2/viewt ... t=new+roof" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That's my new roof.
I made a spare GRP roof cap just in case it all went horribly wrong. It didn't, so I have the spare lying around, plus I have the mould so I could make some more.
It could be used like I have done, with rigid sides, or possibly hinged to one side, or front or rear, with canvas.
The added bonus is that the van will now fit through an ordinary garage door.
But if the whole of your roof has been cut away, it might not cover the whole hole, if you see what I mean. Also there might be structural issues if you remove the hi-top. Could leave you with a floppy three sided box.
If it interests you, please drop me a PM.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.
