Zig Box

Post by jamiemumt »

This may sound silly, (I have lots of those questions), But on my Zig box front I have a 12v socket outlet? what type of outlet is it, what do I ask for when I try and get a plug for it, where do I get them? What can I use it for, ie, what is the normal power rating?

Yes I am new to this camper life.

Can you upload a photo or tell us which model Zig it is?
I'm guessing it's not a cig lighter type .... There is a 12v square plug used in caravans a lot with 2 angled pins, might be one of those? If it is it's a more secure way of attaching things than cig lighters, less likely to fall out. You can use it in place of the cig lighter type plugs on most things, the manual for the Zig will probably tell you the specs

Thanks for the reply. I will need to take a picture and show it then. Its not a cig type outlet, its smaller, and its round. I will get the type of zig if it is on it. I do not have a manual, never came with the van.
Thanks. :)

Ooh. I can remember a post about this sort of connector about a year ago. Turned out it was a ciggy lighter but some strange, odd, weird one if I remember correctly!

Possibly a Hella type 12v connector, used a lot in Europe.

You can buy the plugs from Maplins (or you could) or online. Have a look in the wiki for a manual, there are a couple in there, or google the model number for more info if yours isn't there :ok

Vehicle wiring products do these plugs as do most of the bigger marine chandlers. They are superior to a cigarette lighter plug as they dont fall out of the socket so easily. An idea is to buy a plug and connect to a 12vdc cigarette lighter extension that way either type of plug can be used.
When I wired our narrowboat I used 5 amp round pin sockets, the plug locks in and is unfused, so fusing is at the distribution panel. Had trouble tracking them down at the time but they are mow available from screwfix.

Thamks to you all for the info, it does look like the plug in the picture would fit, I will go to maplin and see if they can give me a plug to fit, and will let you know.
