Wipers stopped working

Post by Cruz »

Not a techie as such but a nudge for anyone who has the same thing happen.

Travelling back home on the M62 yesterday evening the wipers stopped dead just as I was beginning the drop off t'moors towards Manchester. Thankfully the rain had stopped so I shot home as quick as I could to see if I could prevent the disaster of my daily driver being off the road with no other way of getting to work.

Got back home and the wiper motor was making a noise but no action at the arms. So I checked the linkage the best I could and it was fine but I did find the culprit. The bolt that holds the linkage to the back of the motor had worked loose. So I dropped the glovebox, unscrewed the fusebox and pushed it out of the way, as well as pulling the blower air pipe off the heater to get better access. Using a 10mm socket on a small wrench I tightened the bolt, making sure the wipers were in thier parked position and the small linkage on the rear of the motor was in the correct horizontal position (as per Haynes). A bit of a bugger to get to as your working blind and feeling with your hands at the same time as trying not to drop the wrench behind the front panel where it may never be seen again.

Now I've got working wipers again that seem to be a little bit faster than they used to be. :ok
