Fuel tank breathers etc

Post by toomanytoys »

I have the engine and box out at the mo (exxon valdeze size flywheel oil seal leak...) and the breathers on the tank are weepy.. I dont want to undo the tank straps to drop the tank a bit (keep it within the chassis rails.. to find there isnt enough room to change the pipes..

Anyone know if I will be able to get to them or if its a tank right out job? (which I understand is an absolute bitch and should be done in the height of summer, or toasty workshop, to get the plastic a little more supple.......)

When I did mine it took about 3 hours to get out and put back in. I used some large levers to press the side where the fuel sender is in enough to clear the chassis rails, and a trolley jack to force upwards. I did not have any assistance, and it was in February I think. There are lots of things to get trapped as the tank goes up, and keeping the fuel pipes in position is very difficult, as all the shoving and heaving moves them out of place.

There is more fiddling to do with fill pipes, and remember to lube the metal filler with vaseline to aid insertion

So a days job all in all.
