Evening all,
how do i know if my dizzy is worn? i.e can the drive shaft length become smaller as the internals wear? It seems to be slipping on the drive.
Anyone know much about shimming distributors?
distributor wear?

Re: distributor wear?
Liner wear ( up and down) can be shimmed out with a bit of imagintive juggling..........But eccentric wear may only be determined by the use of a decent timing light with everything disconnected (ie vacc hoses etc).......
Or with the use of a good old fashioned diagnostic machine,,,,,

Re: distributor wear?
If its "slipping" then its not pushed down far enough... the only thing that can wear is lateral where it goes all wobbly.. but it would have to have been rather faulty or super high mileage to wear.... the drive on the bottom would wear if its not been engaging but it wouldnt run if it was slipping, so shouldnt wear...... you need to take the dizzy out to check the drive is in the correct allignment at TDC too and the dizzy should only go in 1 way then..
Of course, any prev monkey may have buggered about with it.... so there is the fuggle factor to consider..

Re: distributor wear?
it appears that the dizzy drive was 180 degrees out... where the dizzy sits is not actuallt in the centre of the drive. its slightly osfet to one sode of the centre line.
fished it out and checked shims then put it back and looks and feels better so once other bits are sorted i may be there.
Thanks for the help all!
