Hi mate,
goto the wiki ^^ and read about the oil pressure system. Depending on your van, you will have high and/or low pressure sensors.....tells you, if its working properly, that there are problems deep in your engine. That is why we call it the buzzer of doom.....usually impending disaster. Try new sensors, or take the van to a garage that will test the oil pressure at various revs.
Sorry

Re: buzzer of doom !
Oil lights and buzzers are nothing to do with level..... (unless there is nowt in it of course..
which will be far too late... )
What oil are you using? anything less than a 15w40 and synthetic is piontless... they need the thicker mineral oils..
Correct good quality oil filter? (I only use Mann or VW)
Buzzer comes on when engine has been above 2000 rpm and drops below 2000 if the oil pressure is below the specified limit could be the switch is failing... could be a dodgy connection...

Re: buzzer of doom !
thanks for the comments, recently changed the oil/oil filter, it says MANN on it, the oil is FUCHS SAE 15w-40.
the buzzer was on for ages this morning when cold, eventually went off. And high revving does make it come on periodically, but not every time ?

Re: buzzer of doom !
Sounds like dodgy connection to me. Gives palpitations that damned buzzer.
After owning v-dubs as long as I have (over 25 years) and none of them having a buzzer, I stick to the philosophy that if ts running ok, isn't leaking oil and not overheating, its probably fine. Its just one more step towards modern "lets slap hundreds of gizmos on that can fail or go wrong" approach. Still think the Beetle was the epitome of simplicity - speedo to tell you how fast you're going and an orange light when you use your indicators - anything beyond that is a waste of dash space. And the er...T25 is just a bug in a big body. Can see why VW tried to add these little refinements but just glad I don't have a buzzer - I'd never sleep at night

Re: buzzer of doom !
I'd agree, sounds like failing switch... it shouldnt come on when cold... thats when pressure is best... unless the egine is mullered... which it would have blown up by now I should think....
Get a new switch... its the one below the waterpump pully, you have to take the pully off to get at it though... a bit of a fiddle, but do able...
Seems to be some confusion over what one... I was sure it was a 1.8 bar one, but the WIKI says 0.9 bar... I'd say 0.9 bar is engine toast at 2000 rpm... that less than 10 psi...... if it was that low before the warning, it would be too late I reckon....
If you cant be arsed with changing the switch, then earth out the lead that goes to that switch.....
