1.9 dg engine in a 1987 panelvan.
After 6 months of ownership, the choke has just decided to not work. I put throttle pedal to floor and release slowly but choke doesn't kick in. In the morning, van starts 1st time by slowly depressing the throttle and turning the starter (as in warm start procedure) and ticks over as though it is warm. I then drive about 200 yards and a the 1st t-juncion I come to, the choke is on and revs accordingly. Thereafter it cuts out as per normal. My worry is when the real winter kicks in, I will need the choke function.
I took the air ducting off the top of the carb on Sat. and gave a general clean. choke flap is free. gave a general spray with carb cleaner. Still no joy
Any ideas?

Jake, you are gunna have to take the intake off the top of the carb (when stone cold) and simply watch what happens.
1, Does the choke flap close with aid of the choke element spring.
2, Is the pull down unit working properly ( should pull choke flap open slightly once engine is running)
3, Check all vacc hoses and connectors on engine (are they loose/split,,,if they are change them)
4, Check manifold heater is still working.
Regards
