Smoke coming out of dash

Well I've taken the blower switch out, cleaned all the contacts and refitted it, it doesn't seem to be smoking now.
think I might have I dodged a bullet there

I mentioned these stress bolts a while ago and someone on here replaced theirs with normal bolts. If I remember rightly, VW fitted these special bolts to columns so the wheel would fall away in the event of an accident, an extension I think of the beetle's collapsible cage idea. For that reason I simply refitted mine, doing them up with mole grips as they have a tapered head. I could easily have fitted new ordinary bolts but I'm fairly sure those bolts are designed to shear under massive stress which is why I just put them back.

Any other opinions on this? Anyone with experience of Beetles will know what I'm on about here but others won't.

Yeah true, but at less than two quid a pop and as they snap off at the correct torque I would, and have replaced them every time I have taken the dash out, Three times now.

These bolts are JUST an anti-thief device...nothing to do with crash safety....

Well took the van down to Liam at Concept poptops today and 20 minutes down the M3 and low and behold smoke started coming out of the heat
Well that's another job to do.
