twin - single carb converion

hi, as some of you may have read i am looking at getting a replacement engine for my 2.0ltr a/c (going on saturday to have a look/buy) i spoke to the guy today and he was saying it has a single webber carb on it, so i was wondering how i go about linking that up, mine is an auto and at the moment has twin carbs, the cable comes from the pedal to the back of the gearbox (end nearest front of van) then conects to a lever that operates a long metal rod thaT DIRECTLY LINKS TO THE TWIN CARBS, is there a part available to convert or will i have to get a new cable that runs from the pedal to the engine bay to operate it?

Twin carbs are better than one carb, even if its a Webber

well, for 1. my carbs arnt really any good they need refurbing so couldnt go on new engine anyway, and for 2 fuel economy should be slightly better in theory, and lastly, i just wanna get it through the mot, i am sick of the problems ive been having and just wanna get it done, the single carb will also be alot easier to se up ect cos theres just 1 of em.

Speak to Steve at Gasure to get your carbs rebuilt
2 carbs will give better fuel economy than one.

i am not getting my carbs rebuilt as it is way to expensive at the moment. i just wanna try and get this van through its mot and sorted for the time being, i have a decent engine (hopefully) on its way this weekend with a decent single carb already fitted, so for no i want to keep it on there! so does anyone have any idea about my original question? is there prehaps a longer cable on the later watercooleds that might fit?

The webber is a bugger to set up properly ( they are jetted incorrectly from the factory) and I think you will have issues getting it to link up with the gearbox kickdown rod... (its poss you could live without the kickdown I suppose, not sure though) might be poss to get it running well enough to MOT though...

single central weber is sh.it do a search on em. the inlets waaaayyy tooo long for a start and the chokes are undersize
basically you will be strangling your engine

get the solex refurbed honest.

In my workshop on the floor is the remains of a single twin choke webered a/c engine which destoyed itself due solely to the carb never ever being right always ran either too lean or too rich too advanced or too retraded eventually the engine died the poor thing... Can u afford that??

The twin solex rebuild kits arent much and people on here will advise u should u get stuck what have u too lose?!

I have dealt with 4 of these weber things now and not one has been running right, the last one was a brand new engine with a brand new carb set up and was apparently set up by experts on a rolling road - guess what it ran Sugar Honey Iced Tea!!! New Solex's goin on that next week then...!

Someone will come along n tell me how nice theirs runs now... well all i'll say is enjoy it for this week...
