bouncy speedo needle

Post by Biggydog »

My speedo needle bounces about either between 0 to 40/50 then its fine or if I give the instrument cowling a wobble its fine 0 to 40 then bounces after that. I cant see anything touching the cable, and it still does it with the instrument cowl off.....any ideas chaps
Please oh Lord, dont let mine be a duffer. Amen

Get yourself underneath the van and check routing of cable, make sure it not got any tight bents, just gentle curves. Also check outter casing for cracking....

Check n/s front wheel- if the domed shaped speedo cable housing spins freely, that might be giving a false reading - put some crimps into it to stop it moving - my needle jumps around like that. Another job on me (neverending) list lol

If you've gotta go, you've gotta go. (Camping that is :-) )

Disconnect the cable from the speedo head and run some thin oil down it (3in1 styleee) * make sure it's back on correctly and see how you go.

It's on my list too for the same reason. The white plastic push connector at the speedo end has cracked (broken in two). and obvously doesn't sit in tightly. Passed its mot though 2 weeks ago though without a mention :)
