Well, thanks to everybody on here I have decided to fit a pressure gauge on my 82 Aircooled 2 litre cu, sourced all the bits etc BUT need to know what size thread is the original sender unit on the top of the engine? I need to know this, obviously, when ordering an extension tube to take oil up to a t bar and senders etc.
Thanks!
Finally--- what size thread?

Re: Finally--- what size thread?
Helga, take it easy with the fitting of such an item because the oil sender and crank case is likely to have what is known as a 'Taper seat' thread and not a straight cut thread like a common or garden nut or bolt .
I can't elaborate on the thread size coz I simply don't know.....

Thanks, I'll get that ordered - I'm not, however, fitting it myself! I am doing all the easy bits, the fitting of the gauge and pod and the wiring as far as the top of the engine... then Neville, myfriendly local VW Aircooled chappy is going to do the final fitting of the sender, he says he will also check its reading against a mechanical meter to test for accuaracy... I think that, for only a few quid extra, is best eh?
Re: Finally--- what size thread?
Damn, damn, - so found the followind device for the sender, loads of agauges on ebay, but one last last (I promise) question - that is I need more wire to conect the sender to the gauge, can you use standard 12 volt wire? If so what type? gauge?
