Have I got an Eber?

Post by sciroccotune »

Hi All,

I wonder if you can help.

I recently got a '82 1.6 Diesel which has been imported from Germany. Its got a whole host of things im getting to grips with including a fixed Gas container under the van and what I think is an Eber heater, not to mention a rather spurious system for changing it's two leisure batteries.

On the dash there is a green knob that says 'temp' and when its turned there is a relay click (igg has to be on). There is a silver control box behind the glove box that says eberspacher in blue text.

Under the van there is a section (under the floor of the main living area) that has a 'thing' with a little exhaust.

So my question is really what is this and how does it work?

Thanks guys, I hope its a heater because if the weather keeps getting worse it will be needed!

You have a DA6 Eberspacher. The green knob is for turning it on setting a timer and also selecting the temperature you want. The fuses are located on the main fuse box at the top. Check them to see if blown! The other parts of the system are behind the glove box (2 silver boxes)

Finally under your seat at the back you should have a black metal box on the left. If you have this is the air intake for the Eberspacher heater.

If you have any other questions get in touch.

1. Check all fuses on main box to make sure all fine including the ones above the box.
2. Make sure you have power to both boxes behind the Glove box. (Light screwdriver etc)
3. Push green know in and turn to right to select on and also set a timer.
4. Let go of the switch and whilst out turn to right to select temp.
5. Wait for heater to kick in (may take a minute or so)
6. You should then hear the burner kick in
7. Once at a good temp the fans will kick in and hey presto you have heat.
8. Check for fumes in cab!!!!!!!!! (maybe a good idea to leave all doors windows shut for about 10 mins to see.

Your heat will come out of front just behind the 2 captain seats and also in front of captain seats.
