They're Back!! The sounds of distant lawn-mowers.

One or two of you may remember that I had some problems with my power steering rack a couple of months back and I found this place ..http://www.westernpowersteering.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Anyway, My mechanic sent the rack over to Bristol to be `reconditioned` and I had the bus back on Friday last (along with the throttle-cable having been fixed as well), but after a couple of hundred miles the dreaded sound has came back with a vengence when negotiating turns/corners etc. Checked fluid reservoir to find, not surprisingly, the level well below the min mark.

The big difference now though, compared to before, is that even when the reservoir is topped up, the awful rather disturbing noise is still prevelant! Remembering one of the lads in my earlier `steering rack` thread advised me to get my mechanic to check the pump and the pipes .... this I did at the time and he said they were ok.

I also recall our Aidan cautioning me about this `re-conditioning` process/kit lark may not work. Looks like you're spot-on Aid.

Later today or tomorrow I'll be taking the bus to my usual garage for his opinion/s as to what's what, but bearing in mind he is not a T25 expert (in fact mine is the first and only one he's ever worked on), I am hoping and praying for some advice from you guys as to what to do next.

If you were to take your vehicle to the company who re conditioned your rack for further investigation is likely they will suggest a pump fault. It appears to me that you only option is to try another pump and hope it eliminates your problem.

which garage are you using in / around caerphilly??

Thanks for that Fritz, my bloke will be giving the bus a thorough check on Thursday as to what part is leaking.

Jason, the chap who does the work on my bus is Andrew of A & S Motor Repairs of Pontygwindy Road in Caerphilly. He's a young bloke with a small team around him and in my experience totally honest and trustworthy. He is also the proprietor and is a MOT registered tester. His hourly rates are £32 + VAT which I believe is very reasonable.

As a matter of interest fellas, I spoke to Jon of Syncrospares (the bloke who took over from CJ) yesterday and he suggested going ....... electric! He told me that he could get a kit for £500/£600 plus a labour charge of around £200 for fitting it and Bob's your Uncle! Any readers have an opinion on this development?

When ever we fit a recon rack we flush the system out at the same time, if we don't it invalidates the warranty on the said rack. If the pump is u/s then it could well have done the rack as well, which in turn means you could have a problem with the warranty on the rack

Update: I picked up the bus yesterday and my main man Andrew announced the leak is emanating from ...... the pipes, adding cos they're corroded! Phew, at least I can get these from Baxter for 130 sods.
