Turbo query

Post by Al Housman »

I've sent my turbo off for recon and have been told that, because it came off my 1.6 JX engine and is to go on to my 1.9 AAZ engine, it needs beefing up and will cost £100 more to do this. This doesn't quite add up since as far as I can tell the K14 turbo was fitted to vehicles with 1.6,1.9 and even 2.5 litre engines and even if ,for instance , a bigger impellor or compressor (or whatever it is they reckon it needs!) is necessary this should be a stock item and, presumably,no more (or not much more) expensive than the one they would have fitted if I'd been going to put it back on a 1.6 JX engine.Anybody any thoughts since I suspect they may be trying to hoodwink me!!Thanks.Al

Take it all back!! Their price is in line with other turbo refurbers I've quizzed. It seems that in order to use the 1.9 engine to its potential the turbo needs an upgraded compressor turbine. You'll get away with a standard 1.6 turbo but with lower performance. Also most places won't guarantee a recon if it's not fitted to the correct engine. At any rate I've paid it now and expect to be flying along tomorrow!!!
