1600 to 1641 barrels
Does anyone know if the barrels etc. are the same for a type 1 and type 2 or 3

All 1600 "type 1 based" ie beetle engines are the same... so that means type 1 (beetle), type 2 (transporters 1 and 2) and type 3 (variant/fastback)... They apparently fit a T25 1600 "CT" air cooled too.. (not done it myself though) not sure its worth the effort there though...

Re: 1600 to 1641 barrels
Many years ago I fitted 1641 barrles and pistons in a type1 lump and fitted it in a crewcab. It also had a modified cam to give it extra grunt for climbing and that baby not only flew, spares were cheap and easy to come by. Had to make my own top tinware from ally sheet but otherwise worked a dream. Often had the back piled with logs and it never complained - really did pull.
