If it weren't for the fact we have 2 children you're probably right, however teenagers can only play on the beach with their dad for so long without relapsing into real life.
Besides me and Jackie also enjoy sitting and watching a dvd in an evening with a glass of wine after incinerating some bits of meat.
What are we supposed to do ? Practice our knot tying or polish our shoes ready for the morning ?

if you're on the move quite a bit Ian, you'll have no worries charging the batteries. What about a solar charger as a back up for topping up the leisure battery too.

decide exactly what you want from the laptop (home use and camping) before you even step in the shop and then stick to your choice
I got a toshiba tecra m1 a few years back, had the big battery put in (can watch 2 dvds before it dies) as some laptops have a battery life that is laughable, had a second big battery supplied and had the toshiba 12v fag lighter power supply put in my bundle as well. Took a bit of arguing with the salesman to get it all without being ripped off but got there in the end, its used every day all year round and getting a bit old now but apart from a ram upgrade its perfect for me.
I used to use a usb tv thing in my bay with an indoor set top aerial clamped in the poptop, worked ok until you went to hilly areas. Had a T-mobile stick for a couple of years and only camped a couple of places I dont get signal.
