So it looks like i do have a 1.9 1y engine after all, I thought i was driving a 1.6 as the log book says, so someone didn't update it!!! now as i thought it was a 1.6 it didn't suprise me that its was slower than slow. But learning its a 1.9 and its slow has depressed me, I get 55mph top speed out of her, should i be getting more and if so how???

is it hitting the governor at 55mph? ie running out of revs or is it just short of power?
if its hitting the governor then it could have the wrong gearbox in or something like that, if its running out of power some dervil maestro could probably find you some more grunt with fueling, timing etc.

it seems to have enough power, i do run out of revs, if im cruising on the motor way i try to keep it in the green on the rev counter, which means i get 55mph, if i give it more it does get to 60-65, but the revs are way to high!!

I would say its your gearing then.

My 1Y's all went to 70 no problems - i had no idea about revs though (its safe to say i thrashed them a lot).

A cheap fix is to up the profile of the rear tyres...

thinking about it though - always best to go back to basics

Check the timing of the engine.
Is the fuel pump set up correctly - accelerator cable able to move freely and is not limited too much?

The green area of your rev counter represents the most economical revs to cruise at, just because you go slightly out of the green doesn't necessarily mean your engine will blow up.....that's why you have a red line.
Putting larger diameter tyres on will lower the revs at a given speed but go too large and the engine may not have the torque to get you any faster.
If the van accelerates to and beyond 55 then this would indicated you have the power for higher gearing so a modest increase in overall tyre circumference may well be the answer...just don't go too mad.
