What was/is this ?

Post by Yozza »

Ay up,
Can anyone tell me what the metal flat bar is? Hanging down at an angle there is another one on the other chassis rail. They've both been gas axed off at the front end of the bar. The picture is taken from the underside at the front of a 16" Doka. If it makes any difference, she is a Swede.

Purely a guess but it is the remnants of something that was atached tot the front... maybe a bull bar or winch mount or snow plough attachment... any holes in any where else?

Thanks fellas for the replies. Patrick - I hope your Bull Bars have additional fixings to hold them on? I've removed them now (once the heads had sheared off).

Hi Karl!

It was mounth on one syncro we both.
I don´t know who have make it.
But thay have spent a lot of work on it with all fasten.
It does not look home built out.
But must be produced in multiple copies.
And they have built all the brackets after the original hole in body.

In Australia they call bull bars "roo bars' on account your more likely to run into a roo than a bull. I am guessing bull bar came from the US. Do you think that we should call them "badger bars", "bambi bars" or "the neighbours cat bars" instead?
Cheers
Rob.

pedestrian/cyclist bars

I wouldn't have one because in the event of an accident some sharp lawyers could get you stiffed with a share of the blame for the severity of injuries, and don't forget to tell the insurers you've got one fitted.

The Norwegian word for bull bars translates to "cowcatcher".

Elk bars would probably be a better word. Maybe cheep bars or reindeer bars (Rudolf bars) in the north?

On my syncro i would call them bird bars since i usually run into birds.

In Sweden it´s also not permitted to mount them.
But if you mount some extra light on it so they are classified as attached to the lights and then suddenly it is legal.

On that one we have on our singel-cab is allready fasten to Winsch.
We just have not installed it yet.

Tomorrow i leave Sweden for some holliday in Spain 22 days.
Have work a lot hole year.
