The eber runs but only for a few minutes and cuts out, starts again, then cuts out and only blows cold air.
From manual:
Check continuity of glow pin.
AIRTRONIC 12 volt - approx. 0.5 W ± 0.05 W
AIRTRONIC 24 volt - approx. 2 W ± 0.2 W
Check functions of glow pin in installed condition, to do so disconnect
connector from controller. AIRTRONIC 12 Volt and 24 Volt. Apply voltage
of 8 / 18 volts to glow pin respectively, and measure current
intensity after 40 seconds. Glow in is O.K. for the following values:
glow pin 8 volt - current = 9 amps + 1.5 / - 1.2 amps
glow pin 18 volt - current = 4 amps ± 0.5 amps
If the values differ, replace glow pin. If the values of the continuity test
and function test are O.K., check glow pin cable harness for damage
and continuity. If O.K., replace control unit.

The W quoted above should be an ohm symbol - didn't paste across. You don't need to remove it.(the glow pin)

Am I right you don't switch the heater on for the first test?
turn the multimeter dial to ohms and put probes on either wire of the glow plg/

the current intensity test? can I do this with a multimeter?

Image this is what i've got

1: heater off then as you say
2: Yes if you have a ready 8volt supply and your multimeter has a 10A setting (looks like it)- you have to move the red lead into the top socket for that.
I would avoid trying to remove glow pins unless you really have to as they are rather fragile little beasts and are as you can see pricey to say the least. The webasto ones are of a ceramic material and I presume the ebers are the same. The old glow plugs were very robust but the disadvantage with them was they draw 50 - 75% more current.

Try checking the fuse in the controll unit, mine would only blow cold air when this had blown.

I need to find the control unit then......

still got to run the continuity checks though

fuse was fine.

Checked the continuity: meter said 1.5 when I put the probes on each wire of the glow plug/pin

Still not sure how to check the current intensity: will have try that later. Went to run the eber and it seems the two big feck off leisure batteries are only reading 11v so I've whipped one out for a charge and will do the other tomorrow-feel knackered just carrying it to the house, plus the few walks back and forth to the shed to get some spanners (not been well this week, thought I was feeling better this morning, obviously still need to take it easy).
