Re: Brand new complete AAZ TD engine on eBay
Should I have any reservations about this engine? Is it possible for it to cease after such a long time?
Any other things I should think about?

Re: Brand new complete AAZ TD engine on eBay
You mean seize?
I can't see why, they don't have a habit of seizing, they can throw a rod or big-end cap though
Crank it over by hand on the pulley or flywheel should prove it one way or other, but I doubt there's a problem unless it's been left outside for years without plugs or injectors
Ask Big Tam on PM what he thinks maybe?

Yes i meant seize!
OK -i've bought it and its going in at the weekend.
Would it be recommended to change the pulley wheel bolt if it hasnt got one on with the knobly bit?

Re: Brand new complete AAZ TD engine on eBay
i would be tempted to fit a new cambelt.
thats quite a while to be around, remember , done right it wont need touching for quite a few miles!

Re: Brand new complete AAZ TD engine on eBay
Yes - im defo fitting a new cambelt - i would be a tad worried that its perished.
I'm going to have to treat this engine with a bit more respect as i dont want to have to change the engine for a while!

Re: Brand new complete AAZ TD engine on eBay
Break a cap though
They also run with 5 psi oil pressure, taking it easy
But not for ever.
It would, if you want to be 100%, just to check the keyway, the old one has to come off, so prepare for a bit of heaving on the torque wrench (better out than in!) A dab of nutloc wouldn't go amiss I imagine too. Torques and 90's in Wiki

Never break caps either, main bearing caps is another issue they do suffer with.HarryMann wrote:Break a cap though

Re: Brand new complete AAZ TD engine on eBay
Picked it up today. It is very new looking!
Its not got the knobly bolt on the pulley so im going to have to change it.
Question is, how am i going to lock the fly wheel so i can get the bolt on and off.....

Re: Brand new complete AAZ TD engine on eBay
AndyS made several suggestions when I had to do that...
The best seemed to be to take the starter motor off, and using a sqare section bar (a large pry bar is what i found best), jamb across the face of the clutch or through one of the clutch cover's pressed out holes
Use the flywheel starter teeth at your peril, its possible you might damage or break one.
The other entry for a jamb is the bellhousing timing hole (usually plugged with a cap), which is a bit further around
You might need a helper to ensure the jamb stays put
Another is to remove the sump and jamb the crank against the block with a lump of wood (best if sump off anyway, by far)
The main problem is getting enough wind-up through the engine cover, unless an offset (cranked) socket attachment is available to allow coming out of the engine flap (unlikely). So a ratcheting torque wrench is very handy
For toqueing up and the 90 degree stages, you have to mark the bolt with tippex or chalk accurately, you cannot guess the angle with the powerbar or wrench, due limited one-time movement.
====
Putting it in gear and locking up the wheels feels dreadfully stressful, plus the amount of wind-up makes it untenable.
