movement in driveshaft

Post by Rincewind »

i have a good poke around the van today due to knocking sound i get when driving

the off side driveshaft moves only slightly where as the n/s move at least inch and half!!

is this right? this i doubt as both don't do it.

So do i need a new driveshaft? or is it missing something or something more sinister?

how much do second hand drive shafts go for?

Cheers muchly

Sounds like a CV joint has gone, there are 2 per shaft inner and outer, if they fail you will get a knocking noise due to excess play they cost no more than £50 for the complete kit to replace the joint, you will need new rear nut(Very Tight), CV joint, CV Gaiter, new CV Bolts and Grease. if you get a good kit all will be included.

I would start with brickwerks - they seem to be getting the reputation of being the best for everything.... :ok
