Changing steering wheel

Post by dissy26 »

Hello
I have a 1990 Westfalia Atlantic but It has the wrong steering wheel fitted.
I recently bought a steering wheel through E bay the black padded version fitted to the US Vanagon
but where the steering wheel goes onto the steering shaft It wont fit, The hole In the steering wheel
Is too small for the splines on the shaft. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks
Pete

Normally all specific T3 wheels are inter-changeable without problem.

As you say it had the wrong wheel fitteted ...could it have been some aftermarket jobby that cam with an adaptor for the splines? Maybe you just need to take off the adaptor as well

It may have had a later VW wheel fitted which have the bigger holed spline and use a STEP UP COLLAR........if this is the case it can be easily removed with a puller.
As peasant has said....T3's all have the small spline..or at least to my knowledge.
