Wot I did with mine wos to drill and tap the sump to take an 'insert'.
Think thats the right name. Like a hollow bolt with an internal thread. Plumbers/gas merchants stock them. Insert into sump with loctite then plug into insert with copper washer. I always use ptfe tape.

Machine mart (Clark) do a set of "blacksmiths" drills in a wooden box for about 24 quid... yes I know its still a good bit, but they have 13mm shank and are quite decent quality.. but only worth it if you think you might need to drill some bigger holes in the future.. (IIRC 25 biggest)

Ok
I can happily report the new plug is in... and there are no weeps drips and spots.

However
drilling out the plug hole was very difficult. the bit kept grabbing and spun the dill out of my hands a number of times.
I also think an M14.5 drill would have been better as was suggested.
reason being is the sump plug is a loose fit but goes finger tight and then will turn a quarter to crush the washer and nip up.

I am thinking of going up another size (M18)
There's plenty of room to go up

Thought the "grab" factor might give you a bit of grief

If you fancy trying a reamer for any further attempts, there`s a fair few knocking about in the stores of tat here at "tat towers" but can`t guarantee the right one without knowing size and looking :ok
