Suitcase Freeview Thing

Post by Dubstar »

Can the suitcase freeview setup that you can get from Maplins, Lidl etc, pick up UK freeview in Europe, well, specifically Germany?

In theory yes, but you will probably need a bigger dish.
In Munich I had to install a 1m dish to receive everything so your 18" is going to struggle.

Yeah, the freesat thing. I'll be near Dusseldorf, staying in Rheindhalen and I'm just hoping to get some UK telly!

Working in Rheindhalen as of the 9th November for 2 to 3 years. Not been allocated a house yet so I don't know what services I'll be able to get. Just thinking of the initial first couple of weeks after moving. My new boss has broadband so reckons I should be able to get it, but as the Smiths said, these things take time. It's just something I was thinking about 'cos there's only so much to do before I'll get seriously bored! Any advice on living over there though will be much appreciated.

Hi

As above the box will work fine but you will need a bigger dish .....I got one for use in the uk and it is a bit of a bother to do the first set up but after that it is simple to use.......

Where do I start?
Drink lots of beer and eat lots of sausages.
Don't be a typical ex-pat and get blathered every night and slag off the locals.
Drink lots of beer and eat lots of sausages.
Try and learn some German (find the local volkshochschule for night school classes or maybe your firm will pay).
Drink lots of beer and eat lots of sausages.
Watch the news in German.
Drink lots of beer and eat lots of sausages.
Enjoy yourself

This site will tell you what works, how big the dish needs to be and where in Europe......

http://www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk

We toured Europe with a 60cm dish and A Pace 12V mini sky box. You only need a SKY subscription to receive pay per view channels , other than that you have access to all the freview channels except CH5 but all the info and satellite footprints are in the link above.
