fitting eberspacher or similar

Post by 5rise »

Hi, wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction. I'd like to fit a diesel heater like eberspacher or similar to my diesel T25 once I've aquired one from Ebay. I need to know what model/type to look out for and some info about fitting it. I presume it would go under the rear seat but haven't a clue where the exhaust is supposed to go (cutting holes in bodywork..?) and does it get plumbed in to the fuel lines or does it have it's own tank?
Thanks
Jon

Exhaust is under the vehicle completely. Only need a separate tank if you are running on veg oil like me.(they don't like it up them!)

the eberspacher d1lc is the one to look out for.you can fit it under the rear seat or under the glove box either way you will have to cut two holes in your van.you can tap into your diesel feed(not return) pipe using a "t" piece.also worth noting.the exhaust and breather pipes need to be the same length..

Webasto airtop 2000 is the one to look out for, forget the overpriced ebers. (only one hole in yer van)! Do not need the same fine degree of tuning of pipes as the ebers.

Makes propex look even more attractive.
I like propex nice and simple, with a dead easy to follow installation guide.

You can pick 24v ones up for £50 ish, a relay ,12 to 24v converter, a diode and a couple of transistors and your away, I've even added remote switching so that my vans can be defrosted for a couple of hours before I go out to them in the winter (an extra £12 for two remote relays). I've done two 2000s and three HL18Ds, total is under £350 - your brains and research cost nothing!

Thanks for the replies - that'll give me a lot to go on.

Windysurfer - had a look at how you did yours (great info by the way) - when you say "Back inside the van I now had to fit the vents, one for fresh air and one for the hot air" I know this probably sounds stupid but what is the fresh air vent for? (as heater is drawing air from below the van)

Oldie - how come Webasto only needs one hole in van? Also, as I know bugger all about electrics, once the 24v are adapted for 12v are there any further pros and cons between the two?

Thanks again
Jon

Maybe fresh air vent was a bad description. The eber draws fresh/cold air in from inside the van, heats it up and blows it back out, so you'll need two vents inside the van. The eber also has a temp sensor in the fresh/cold air side which it uses to regulate the temp in the van.The air drawn outside the van is for combustion.

It's well worth downloading a manual from the Eberspacher website which will explain everything you'll need to know

Upside down image to show inlet, exhaust, wiring and mounting bolts. These pass through a mounting plate ( heavy plate to keep heat from van floor/underseal etc.) which requires a single hole.

If you know nowt about electrics I won't try to blind you as to how to adapt a 24v model to 12v! They are exactly the same - it's just that they are easier to come by from lorries etc.
