turbo diesel head gasket

Post by chip »

I have a turbo diesel with a blown head gasket.I have got the JK manual and in the cooling section it mentions an aux water pump for the turbo, the person i got the van off told me they have had 4 gaskets go over a period of time.In the engine bay i can not locate the said aux pump.Without the pump i presume that this is not going to help matters. It looks like its had a new head and im praying that its just the head gasket and not the head.Any info will be great.
keep on keeping on.

The auxilary pump is located on the front bulkhead of the engine compartment. It stops the engine heating up when left standing hot, or when the temp gets very high whilst running.

I thought all 1.6TD's had them as standard, maybe yours was a 16.d that someone has converted?

Tis an in-line electric pump on the hose. If it's there, it should turn when you crank the engine over.
Grasp the pump in your hand whilst someone else starts the engine. You should feel it spin at the same time the starter spins.

cheers all, pump is not there can see some jiggery pokery has been going on,bits of copper pipe and jubilee clips and a wire which has been cut.The van in question is a LHD f reg caravelle also its got a webasto heater. My train of thought for the head gasket problems are aux pump being removed, god knows when as the van has been all round europe mainly in spain so say no more, also the webasto looks like it has'nt been touched for a lifetime so could be full of crud causing partial blockage,so a full clean out of all cooling system is in order.Anyone out there got any info on diesel webasto heaters including wiring diagram cheers :roll:Keep on Keeping on
