My possible 1st purchase, need advice, PRONTO....please ....

Post by weejoe »

Hi folks hope you can help this complete newb with a camper quiery.

I'm just after a bit quick advice before I view a van today.

I'm about to go look at my 1st possible campervan.

I know hee-haw about them other than what I've read.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

My mate reckons the "Devon" conversion is one of the best, I've spoken to the guy and he says it doesn't have a 240V campsite hook-up

Should It ?

If it should then is this van something other than a Devon conversion ?

If the van is to my liking then ya'll be seeing a lot more dumb questions from me on here very soon

apologies if this is a bit upfront for my 1st post, I'll introduce myself later :D

I'm hoping by the time I get up out my bed from the nightshift that one of you good lads or lassies might have answered my question.

Cheers

Joe

Yep it looks like a proper Devon Moonraker but I dont remember a green version? Inside is same as mine and roof looks correct, 240v was not fitted, but dead easy to add, but you dont always need it and it costs more to camp with lecky hook-up.

As Matt says the best pop-up made, but again i'm biased had mine for ten years now.

He's mine, all mine :D :D

It's deffo a Devon but sprayed frog green at some point, decent paint job though.

His name shall be Kermit

Problems so far

Need two new lock barrels, one for tailgate and one for drivers door, some bugger has tried to nick him at some point and fooked the drivers lock.

He's had his tailgate replaced at some point and I'm without a key :(

Worst till last :(

He has a hole in his fuel tank about 3/4 of the way up, how do I know ?

Cause I gave him a full tank of petrol as a welcome to the family

Had to empty him down to half a tank to stop the drip :(

This is something I need looked at before I take him on his 1st trip to Skye and the outer hebrides.

So whadda ya'll reckon ?

New tank required or might it be patchable ?

Thanks for the help so far folks :D

I think your gonna see me around this neck of the woods for a while :D

bargain....

Right, Fuel tank........
There's 2 overflow tanks under the wheel arches at the front, Every 2wd van I've had overflows here when full to the brim, the rubbers perish......just put 3/4 in and you'll be fine

Hi weejoe, From your posts it appears you have got a good van at a very reasonable price.
Something strange is going on though as the auction for your van has just finished at 13.01.50 BST 8/7/06! Someone using the name:- garden-lighting-co placed a winning bid of £2,750.00 on the vehicle.
It would appear that the seller sold you the van before the auction ended
but never actually cancelled the auction. The winning bidder won't be too
happy when he finds out he hasn't actually won anything!

Aye get under there with a torch and find out where the leak is comming from, just as a precaution turn on the torch away from the leak so as to not ignite your new family member. if its the tank needs replacing your nearest second hand supplier would be syncronutz in shotts, or maybe spannerack in greenock, its a faff but just about a novice's job
