Re: Over heating
it's the HG................gone again. Apparently once the heads been skimmed it's just slightly lower then before, makes sense really. I replaced the HG with the same size gasket that was on it before. Wrong! should have used a thinker one because the head had been skimmed therefore valves hitting pistons(only just thank God), thus air and water filled the head. Poor hoses didn't know what hit them hense the leaks and pressure everywhere. new HG on Monday. will up date

Re: Over heating
Ok so It's been a while. A while which I would rather have not experienced. HG went on and all the hoses and everything else that goes with it. The small nut that fell through the hole of the head as the gasket went on didn't even enter my mind as me and my mate agreed that it would fall down to the sump and lie there. I turned the key, listen to a ching ching ching and then saw a puff of smoke rise like a genie from a lamp. Whhoooosshhhh. I let her idle for a few seconds and got out to see if all was well. I saw at least four litres of oil on the ground and still more oooozing out from the bottom of the block. I ran, switched her off and tried to shovel some earth onto the oil to prevent it flowing into the neighbours garden. Whilst at the same time trying to place a tray under the leak. After ten minutes of covering the leak on the floor with newspaper and clothes and rugs I managed to have a look and try to see what's gone wrong. Nothing. I can't see a thing. Obviously there must be something, there's gallons of oil of the floor. I light a fag and sit back. I think about the work already gone into over the past week and begin to think she'll never work again. Covered in oil I scamble under. I can see the HG covered in oil but so is everything else. "feck"! why me why now? Then.................the nut! I remember the nut that fell into the block and realise it must be the cause. As my fingers are probing the ins and outs of the bits I can't see I feel a jagged edge behind the engine mountain. "pooh"! I feel a bit more and can guess from what I feel there's a crack. Back into the house for a camping head light. I shine it at the crack and can see it is the problem. I give up and phone my mate the mechanic and he says he'll be around in the morning.
9.05 am and he's already taken the mountain off. The crack is about three inches vertical and and inch horizontal. He fingers it and it falls out. There's a gaping big hole in the bottom of my block, about 6inches from the base of the engine. I'm convinced it's all over. New engine! My mate says " no problem". The rest of the day was spent deciding which would be the best solution. We buy two types and get to work. Three layers of liquid metal later and a good dose of fibre glass over them. Three days drying time and I start her up. IT WORKS. I've done about 6 miles testing her and she's fine. MOT in the morning and then a good run to see if the heat affects the liquid metal.
Update tomorrow night
