What Diesel Instrument Cluster

Post by Mick & Tracey »

Current cluster has had the benefit of previous owners DIY. Works sometimes but would prefer to replace.

Are all diesel clusters the same, or do I need to look for a particular unit?

You don't say what year your van is but as a general rule pre 86 vans have a speedo and just the temp and fuel gauges on the right hand side. Later vans have an analogue clock on the right.
On post 86 vans you need to make sure that the speedo is a push fit connection and the electrical connections are a horizontal bar under the unit. Early vans have a screw connection for the speedo cable - not sure if the elec connections are different.
Also ensure any unit you buy has a good circuit 'board' - the blue strip thingy that runs across the back of the units. These are notoriously difficult to repair and will vary according the clocks fitted in the dash.

Good units for 1600TDs go for about £60-70 on eBay if they have a clock

Hope this helps

also, post 86 vans have an extra pcb in the speedo housing for the Dynamic oil pressure system (buzzer of doom). Best to state your vans year of manufacture as there are several changes to be aware of.

Thanks.

It's an 89 doka RHD, originally 1600TD (now AAZ).

Has speedo and rev counter, no analogue clock just digital thing.

Hadn't realised there were so many combinations, just seen an earlier NA with a clock but no rev counter.
