Intermittent Gauges & Now Not Charging

Post by Mick & Tracey »

Gauges on my diesel doka have been intermittent for a while - they usually start up again if ignition is turned on again.

Ended up running with gauges off for a while yesterday, ending up with a flat battery.

Wiring has the benefit of previous owners DIY, including a dash light that would come on after engine had been running for while (charging light??).

Loose connection to gauges seemed obvious one, but would that explain not charging?

Would a regulator explain it? If so where is the little beauty?

Quite possibly the dash. The alternator requires a small electrical feed through the battery warning light circuit to start it charging. Or you rev the engine over about 3000 rpm then it will self excite and start charging normally. Check the power supply for the dash (plain black wire) earlier models it came direct from the ignition switch so it is possible you have a duff switch.
