FS/SWAP my Syncro Doka for your LHD tintop

Post by poshbuggers »

I'm looking for a Syncro Caravelle to replace my Doka.

Basically a change of circumstances (and a Westfalia) means the crewcab is not being used at all and a Caravelle would be much more practical.

So if you have a solid and reliable (LHD) tintop Syncro Caravelle please get in touch :D

So, to the Doka......

The Doka is a 2wd-4wd conversion carried out by Mike Ghia many moons ago. I've owned it for over 4 years now and it's reliability is testament to Mike's work. It may be a conversion but it does what any other Syncro can do. I have trusted it enough to use it as a daily driver for 3 years as well as to get us up and down the country on holidays and to see relatives. It has also taken us through and around Europe twice, the last time a fortnight of driving (3500 miles) around France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany and camping on the Eifel mountain range. In all this time the Doka has only ever required a starter motor or two, an alternator, a battery and 2 wheel bearings. The costs of regular servicing really outweigh any outlay for unexpected breakdowns with these vehicles.

It had the body tidied 3 years ago with a brand new load bed, rear panel and rear trim panels imported from Tristar Connection. These were fitted and the locker/load bed area all coated in Jenolite before paint. I can show pictures of the work.

The doka runs a 1.9 petrol wasserboxer engine and benefits from F&R difflocks. It's been regularly serviced by a Syncro-savvy chappie and T25 specialist (himself a Syncro owner). It is currently running on the original 14" steel wheels.

Good points:
No 'rot', just needs cosmetic tidying. Painted Audi Daytona Grey.
Regularly serviced
Engine/drivetrain have had light use for the last 4 years.
Recent clutch
LT Mirrors
Rollbar
4th door conversion (needs check strap bracket welding on, supplied)
Custom engine access lid (like a van, not the OEM piece of wood)
Custom engine hatch (with the VW Caddy 'VOLKSWAGEN' script across it
Tristar rear bench with 3 seat space and 2x3pt and a lap belt
Tristar sliding rear windows
Camo fabric interior with built in speakers
Multivan speakers in B pillar
New grey headlining (with wiring for DVD installed)
Upgraded interior lighting
Locker doors solid and locks work :-)
Alloy 'chequer plate' cab step plates
Cab door SA spec vinyl trims
Kamei armrest on drivers side window ledge (so good on long journeys I am trying to import another)
New exhaust silencer and tailpipe

Bad points (hey, lets be honest they all have a few):
Dash illumination doesn't work
Heater control cables disconnected (spare levers etc supplied, blower works)
Could do with some areas repainting (keying, scratches etc)

I've just replaced the starter motor and despite lack of use (6 months) it started fine. I'd keep it but finances (and the wife) dictate it has to go. I'll be taking some up to date pictures early next week and posting them to interested parties.

I'm asking £4250 as is or £4500 with a full MOT. I have every confidence in it passing as its done few miles since the last one and as such will do any work required for the full figure. As stated - if you have a tidy (LHD) tintop Caravelle Syncro there is a deal to be done!
