More problems!

Post by vwduncan »

Last week our new van cut out on us and we couldn't get her started again. RAC called out and she started first time! He said it prob was imobiliser. After posting on here people gave me some ideas of what it could be so checked all those out and she seemed okay had few drives out in week............then

Today we decided to go visit the in laws so off we went. Everything was going fine until we came off the motorway onto the slip road. She just cut out and wouldn't start. Stuck we called the RAC again and waited for them (thanks to the guy in a bay camper who stopped to see if he could help).

After inspecting the van this was the diagnosis

"Compression sounded down on cranking, did start up but misfiring, compression very low on cylinders 3 & 4, suspected dropped valve"

We were towed home and she started for long enough to get her on the drive.I'm not technical in any way so can anyone tell me if this is a bad problem :?:

Thanks from a very disappointed new camper owner

So did he do a compression test to come up with that?

If not i'd get a compression test done, If you can change spark plugs you can do a compression test yourself, a cheap tester can be had for £10-£15 on ebay. Its easy to do and might tell you the problem.
