As these things always go, with the help of AngeloEvs I managed to fix my fuel and temperature guage. Yeah! Very reassuring to know these work now. Anyway drove the van to the bottom of the road and the oil light and buzzer started to go off! Ahhh, can i just have a break? Anyway I checked the oil before setting off and it was ok. This has never happenned before, as part of the fixing of the temp guages etc I added a 42 relay and was wondering if this has triggered the oil warning light and also why the previous owner took it out. Also I was wondering if the best place to start was to replace the two oil pressures sensors as these seem relatively inexpensive? Any help much appreciated
My oil buzzer has never worked but more than one person has said connecting it can give you heart failure. Where is it and why might mine not be working? More to the point is it actually worth getting working?

worth getting working...yep, as I know when driving along that the oil pressure is fine, as its not buzzing!
The red flashing light on the other van isn't working. At all. had it three years, and it never has. Overheated due to lack of water. But light would have flashed a darn site earlier and stopped the overheating.....so yes, i would say to get all warning systems working, unless you are fastidious in your other checks. Also, oil pressure isn't visible, is it? I can check the water in the van....as I can check the oil level, but the buzzer kept going off even when oil was ok.....so deeper probs with the engine.....so got it changed.

The module 42 will have no affect on the oil pressure circuit as it is completely separate. It may have been removed to stop the temperature gauge led misbehaving but it is essential that it is fitted to warn you of coolant loss - that's its sole function. Buzzer sounding is usually a problem with wiring to the 0.9 bar oil pressure switch or the multiconnector at the rear of the dash (assuming oil pressure is ok).
Thanks for the response AngeloEvs it would seem like there is probably a problem then. If it is the switches does anyone know what colour they would be? I have a 1.9 petrol engine 1986. If it is not the switches then I suppose the pump is probably shagged......
Get the pressure switches from Brickwerks... as the GSF ones are hit and miss quality control wise..
Also get the oil pressure checked when hot.. as this is the only way to tell whats it really is.. if its good then you will need to clean all the conections and check the electical side..
Also.. what oil are you using? anything less than a 15w40 is too thin really.
If it is low pressure, fitting a new oil pump is very unlikely to cure it.. it will be main and big end bearing wear that drops oil pressure.. once its doing that its on borrowed time..
Thanks for the information, all very useful. I did have to remove the dashboard to fix the temp/fuel guage. I was going to check all the connections just to make sure one has not come lose. It does seem to be a little to much of a concidence
Our buzz of doom goes off for no apparent reason every few months , since i first took off the dash nacelle to replace a bulb -- i hits the dash real hard loik and it stops .
Heart also stops until another mile is travelled with no engine seizure .
Then , normal service is resumed .

I was frequently stressed and made cross by my bloody buzzer. All was well with engine and oil levels etc. So I asked the marvellous Charlie of Brighton who suggested I check the cabling from the two sensors (Temp. and Level), that run randomly across the engine on the NS before entering the wiring harness, and replace the old factory spade connectors with either new ones or choc-box type screw in ones , which I did, and TOUCH WOOD it has been fine ever since. The connectors were a bit old and oxidised-looking. Good Luck!
