Mystery "Camping" logo on tailgate

Post by McBeezle »

Hi

Does anyone know anything about this logo?

Image

We think we've identified our van as a 1989 Bilbo conversion (possibly blue and white originally - with a high hard top) but the "camping" logo on right of tailgate is a mystery.

Any ideas or fellow camping logo owners out there?

Is it possible a previous owner added it rather like we add decals now?! It's in the same font as the Volkswagen logo. Or do you think it was added by Bilbo and denotes the model ?

This is one of our first postings but by no means first visits to the club site. Over the past 18 months, we've learnt so much as new camper parents. Awesome. Thank you.

OK now I'm really confused! So Volkswagen put the logos on as they left the factory, knowing they were destined to be fitted out as campers? But a conversion also has one? Maybe the conversion had a replacement tailgate from one of the "destined to be a camper"

So quite common and not likely to help us identify the type of van then? Thank you all for your postings.

Brilliant.

My 1987 diesel has a CAMPING badge too. I always thought, as Mocki says, that the vehicle was always a camper (converted by VW?) and as a result I thought it was a bit rare and special!!! I'm subsequently told, however, by people whose opinions I trust, that mine's just a converted van like many others, and the badge don't mean nuffink. ????

Doesn't mean nuffink. No I'm quite reassured they aren't rare. Infact very common  but maybe it does mean something.

It seams to mean that Volkswagen put the camping logo on because they were destined for delivery to a conversion factory.

Useful to know cause it gives us an idea of their history - spasmodic use and maybe a lot of adventures but less likely to have been overworked as a daily workhorse. Special :ok
