Hi all, returning from Vanfest and my 1.9D gave up the ghost - I'm new to T25's and buses in general so here's some background:
Engine has a 1Y in the number and a big fat SEAT emblam on the rocker so I'm assuming its a standard 1.9D. Connected to a 4-speed manual VW box, but it runs out of steam (well....it did) at around 55mph). Previous owner put a K&N and a chav loud exhaust on her too... So I'm stuck between getting the head skimmed and repairing the existing engine (head gasket went, 200 miles from home ); or getting a full recon engine... Just wondering whether 55 is normal with this set up, and whether I should upgrade now from for example http://www.theengineshop.info" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to maybe a TD or TDI, I'm not looking for great 0-60 times, but a bit more top end for cruising would be good. Any thoughts/comments welcome.
Hmmm, ok thanks for the reply russel. So maybe I shown keep and repair my engine, and investigate the gears a little better... I'll look for a serial number tomorrow.
Cheers lloyd, I dream of 115 kph!! - the engine has a BIG 1.9D cast into the block, but cant find the definitive engine number anywhere (excuse my stupidity!) My thinking is that in a previous life the gearbox ratios must have been changed...
I've just changed my box from a ABR code 5.5 final drive to a ASS with a 4.83 final drive.
This has added about 10 mph in 5th for the same rev's.It makes for a much nicer drive
