Hi

I have been a coachpainter for the same company for 33 years. Over the past 15 years we have brushed the paint on with hamilton perfection plus paintbrushes, then rollered the paint with a high density foam roller. No bubbles come out in the undercoat but they do in the gloss. What we do with the bubbles in the gloss is to drag the paintbrush very lightly over the bubbles to get rid of them.

I have been told that there is a foam brush but I have never tried these

We also add 10 percent hardner to the gloss paint this enables the coachpaint ( once it has dried sufficiently to be T cut and polished )

Kev

I used to paint narrowboats and we did it the same way as kev5047 describes, prepped with 120 grit on a da sander, thin the paint until bubbles come straight to surface and pop, rollered on, good quality brush and gently pull the bubbles out, left to right up and down. We did 3 coats. Ended up looking as good as most spray jobs pre wet sand and polish.
