Two words - turbo diesel. Half-decent economy, and it can still drag itself up hills. Who wants to drive fast anyway?

IMHO I find that the petrol is faster/more responsive but not as economical as the diesel (excluding the differences with turbo diesel's etc. Can't comment on turbo's 'cos I aint had one). Incidentally, I have found that my 1.6 diesel is far smoother than my old 2.0 A/C and my mates 1.9 W/C petrol. :?

ive got a 1.6 petrol and its well slow. the fact that it was dragging a brake didnt help.... i can get about 75 out of it and it will happily cruise at about 60 65 on a run.
as for mpg i havent got a clue as the fuel guage is broken at the min. jerry can on standby all the time.

in my time ive had a 2.0l air cooler, that i could get about 80 from but it was a bit more thirsty, guess it was a bit quicker on pick up.
i also had a 2.0l water cooled crew cab that used to power slide, that was a hoot.... was mental fast and solid as hell. used to do about 30 mpg....

as has been said before the Aircooled are easyer to work on but the water cooled do have loads better heating...... all hangs on how you want to drive it, when in the year and where.
if its start stop inner city driving then maybe not so good for the air cooled.

bays are great to look at and a hoot to drive but with kids i wouldnt unless you have a big awning on the side. plus to get a good one that you would feel safe putting the kids in your looking the thick end of about 7k..... there are cheaper out there but i wouldnt put kids in em.

t 25 at lest the engine is in the right place rather than a t4.
happy looking.
