as above realy. looking for as much advice as i can get before i make it final. i am running a 2.1mv in a syncro doka at the moment, i know that adian will have to do some work on the gear box. and i would like to do as much of the work my self to keep the costs down.
i am not looking for loads more power although a little more would be nice. just better mpg and less electrics on the engine.
the LEZ that i am living in at the moment wont be an issue as we a planing to move some time soon.
is there a comprehencive set of instructions any place out there?
what or where can i source an engine or car.
which engine or year of car.(i would like to keep things as simple as poss)
is there any thing esle that i should be awere of.

One figure you need neil is 6K, thats how much it costs......... A mechanical hybrid fuel pump is £1500 on its own, etc etc etc..... for the way you use yours an MV is fine and if your worried about mpg, get it gassed.
Although the DJ is more powerful i reckon i could have gone another foot deeper here Click here for some deepish water crossing without totally covering the dizzy cap with water. With a little advice from Russel i now have this problem spanked

I think the pump prices are silly, but that's what you pay for specialist engineering developments
Maybe talk to Pete Pollard, see what his experiences are?
The Subaru has less electronics to get wet, a much better and tidier package all round... and would give a measurable improvement in mpg with low emissions, but think about £3000 all-in
A TD would eliminate the electrics, and give a guaranteed 25 in mpg - possibly the cheapest option.

I know exactly what your getting at Clive a TD is a better more cost effective way of getting rid of the dreaded spark of the petrol engine and the dreaded deeper water combo that doesnt exactly gel for limited funds
If Neil was to to do an Africa trip or even a trip that would mean him going off on his own without his two wheel drive camper van in tow i might even sugest a TDI was for him but lets be honest it wouldn't be worth it for how he uses his van. And a diesel in a doka wouldn't be able to drive anywhere near his work target anyway...

even gassing it might not make sense depending on how long it will be kept and what sort of mileage, save 7-8p per mile on lpg over petrol and have less oooomph (I'm happy though and the conversion has well paid for itself in 5 years nearly 30k miles)
conversion cost say £900 that's nearly 12k miles to get back to even.....or the equivilent of 4k miles fuel on petrol and diesels are noisier, dirtier and seem incapable of retaining their liquids (ok, I know I've a weeping head stud but that's on a 134k miles original wasserleaker engine)
a TD at 25 to the gallon isn't much cheaper than petrol, and you need to do 35 to be the same ppm as lpg
and since he's spent the money fixing the wbx I'd say stick with it and enjoy the relative peace and quiet
don't forget too the official wading depth for a diesel is less than the petrol cos vw didn't think dunking the turbo in water is a good idea, ok so generally we've not experienced too many problems with them but stick it on top if you do go there I reckon, especially if using a new or hybrid turbo
