Just doing my pre-MOT checks.
One rear wheel bearing seems to have some play in it. Bit of movement in wheelrim at 12-6 and 3-9 o clock, I assume the wheel bearing is on its way out.
Will this cause probs at the MOT due this week, hope not as planning a Vanfest weekend.
cheers.
where is the best place to get decent bearings ?

Re: Rear wheel bearings--- MOT ?
It needs to be fairly bad play to fail on the rear bearings. Does it feel rough if you spin it? ..Thats a fail.

Mmm what's that strange smell from my exhaust...
Re: Rear wheel bearings--- MOT ?
Doesnt feel rough at all, and no apparent griding like noises, just a bit of rocking top to bottom and side to side, cant think what elese it could be apart from bearing.
Am I correct in thinking I will need a 46mm hub socket and 3/4 drive breaker bar to undo it ?
cheers

Re: Rear wheel bearings--- MOT ?
Due to the design of the hub and the type of bearing used ("C3 grind" which means it has a specific amount of clearance to allow for heat build up) its normal to have a little play.. a good suggestion would be to go for a reasonable drive before MOT to warm up the bearings this will reduce the amount of play..
Bearing change is a bit of a pain... as the rear hub assembly has to be dissmantled and removed to replace the bearing (I am just refurbishing some bearing housings at the mo)
