T25 2.0l Aircooled - Torque setting for carb bolts

Post by PhilBenton »

Anybody know what the right torque setting is for the nuts holding the Solex carbs on please? I've still got an air leak somewhere even though I've renewed every single hose on the vaccum system - including the servo vaccum pipes for the brakes. Maybe the carbs aren't tight down - but I'm afraid of overtightening them and I can't find the torque settings in the Haynes.

hi philbenton

i would be wanting to put new fibre gaskets top and bottom
of the bakelite spacer, check spacer is not cracked...

then low torque, just tight enough plus 20 degrees, ish...

dont want to wear out your fibre gaskets with too much torque

best rik

gentle bite down with a spanner is all thats needed. all you're doing is squashing the gasket. Three, even two fingers on the spanner would be more than enough. Spray a little WD40 around the throttle flap spindles and see if the revs increase. If they do - theres your leak. And please update your profile so we know roughly where you are - much easier to suggest local gurus who can assist then.
