Propane and butane regulators

I bought a SMEV hob (propane) from the USA (ebay bargain!). It's output pressure from the regulator needs to be 11WC (27mbar) - can I use a butane 27mbar regulator?

don't see why not as long as it fits your gas bottle.

Propane will be the better one to go for though as the water content in the butane is 10% and the propane will burn a lot hotter.
If you are gonna go the propane calor gas red bottle way I've got some empty ones here you can have. (Save you buying the bottle).
The 27mbar regulators for propane are about £5/£6 ish.

Hi Pete, I intend using propane but was a little concerned that this hob that I got from the USA needs to see 27mbar as opposed to UK hobs which are rated at 37mbar.
Cant seem to find a 'propane' - red- regulator rated at 27mbar, grateful for a pointer where I can get one and an empty bottle, smallest you got!

Doug,

the regulator is one thing, but you may need to re-jet the hob to get it to burn properly; or at all! Volume/pressure at the burner is a function of the initial gas pressure, ie from the regulator and the jet size. Also as stated earlier in the thread, butane has a lower calorific value than propane, so you may not have as efficient a hob with butane as you would with propane. Try turning a small gas blowlamp up full and lighting it!
