No can of worms spikeymike, just very interested in anyone who drives one of these odd vans :D

I agree about the high revs and agree with weldore 60 is plenty. You really have to own it for a while to gain confidence in it. The blokes on here are a very helpfull bunch and have helped me out a lot in the past as there is no substitute for experience is there. I am in the throws of checking my gearbox code to either change to a better ratio or increase wheel diameter, not that I am looking for extra speed I just want to be a bit kinder to the high revving engine. Oh yeah, the waving thing seems to be dropping off a bit but I wave at all VW,s it is the baaaays that dont wave back in this neck of the woods. Enjoy your new and usefull hobby mate.

when i first fitted mine i thought it was gonna blow up everytime i went out in it,not because it revved high but just because ' i ' had fitted it and i had to get that confidence that pete is talking about.it just takes time for it to grow like you found with your 800 mile run.even if it does pack up it can be repaired or a whole new engine can be found on ebay for around 200 quid so its no biggy

I originally change the gearing on my 1.9na by fitting bigger tyres. I went from 50 profile to 60 profile on 225/16 tyres.Dropped the revs by about 400 rpm, doesn't sound a lot by made the van more driveable, meaning it was happy at 65 rather than 55-60. I've just had to change my gearbox due to my old packing up so fitted a box from a 1.6td which has made a massive difference to the vans gearing. It's added around 10mph in 5th, 60mph is now possible in fourth. Its probably a bit over geared now so I'm thinking about going back to a low profile tyre.

Hey peeps, just had the throttle cable snap on me and i cant find a replacement anywhere. I'm not sure if it would be the origional cable or if it would be a random cable thats been used as is has a golf engine in there. would the change in engine need a change in cable?! And where the hell do u get one these pesky things??!!

Yup, I used the original cable that was on before I upgraded 1.7ky to 1.9 1Y it was fairly new anyway and I got it from GSF but Mr Baxter will supply you with one and a much better quality than GSF.
