Post by woodmonkey »

anyone ever lowered a van by heating the springs with a gas axe? i know a few people who have done it with cars, just wondered if it would work on a van :|

Sounds a well dumbass idea to me! how would you do it evenly? the springiness would be fooked as the tempering of the steel would be altered, jeez, there are some teewats out there!

Spring cutting are for pikeys and Nova boys.

On top of that if you have an accident and the rozzers take a close look, you may be booked for having a defective vehicle, as well as invalidating your insurance, as no insurance wants a pikey on there books.

you block or jack it to the right hight, the steel is fine al long as you quench it in oil as it's cooling down, someone did say something about 2 ton commercial vehicle that is prob talking sense!!!!!!!!!

It cant really be done unless you have access to a furnace as std springs are not progressive so you would have to heat the whole thing up evenly THEN press it down to the height you want. Not gonna ramble on but it would end up being pants.

If you had progressive springs then you could at a push heat one area but your then creating a weak point in the spring as it would always flex from your heated area first and eventually work harden that part of the spring to failure.

Coiled bits of metal they are but there is a lot behind spring manufacture..
It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!
