Rough running 2.1 wbx - advice needed

Post by keith2874 »

Hi

drove 200 miles yesterday in the van. At first all was well but after a couple of hours doing 60 on the motorway the engine started to misfire intermittantly. I came off the motorway onto an a road and I thought I was going to break down as it was running so rough and wouldn't pull away at junctions without revving the nuts off the engine and riding the clutch. After a few minutes of doing 40 - 50 while looking for somewhere to stop everything settled down so I carried on to our destination.

I'm now on a campsite in croyde with no tools available to check plugs with a van that's working fine again. I'm thinking ht leads but has anyone got any other ideas? I'm quite happy to drive it home and see what happens as long as I'm not going to damage the engine if it starts playing up again.

Any advice much appreciated

k

sounds to me like fuel tank breather mostly blocked,,, sustained high consumption causing a vaccuum in the fuel tank,, running on normal roads giving chance for air to enter the tank each time revs drop etc.
if it happens again remove the fuel cap and see if you here it suck air in.

could be the fuel pump, or the filter, or the air intake.
sounds fuel starvation, but i doubt its a vacume building up on these tanks, not with the tanks in the wheelarches

Wait till its dark and look at the engine running , you may be able to see blue sparks/flashes from the ht leads .
Other than that without tools you won't be able to do much!!
