engine help

Post by umgum »

had my engine rebuilt there is a tapping noise from the front of the engine near the clutch
anyway the guy that built it played with the tappets it`s still making the noise took it for a drive it was fine for about 5min then it started back firing just a bit at first but as the engine got warmer it was more and louder
not sure if it was throught the carbs(twin 40 dells have been fitted) or the exhaust

any ideas please i have spent a small fortune on the engine now

If it gets worse once the engine is hot is could be a sticking vale,,,,,,,,,I'd be trying a compression test with the engine red hot.

wonder why he did that as it sounds as though he's over tightened them so that as the valves get warm and expand theres no clearence so they're not closing.
ask him to set them correctly as per advice on here and i bet the backfiring goes away. dunno what your rattle is tho
