Re: Big end!!
New engine - consensus will back me up on that. Putting bionic bearings in an old lady generally doesn't work. Its all or nothing. You'll find wear everywhere I suspect.

Re: Big end!!
Are you sure its the big ends?? how long has it been doing it? is the oil light coming on? have you had the oil pressure checked?
Has it been started and run for only short trips etc...?
They dont run for very long when they start knocking...
What oil are you using? do an oil change and use some 20w50 mineral...
Oh.. please fill out your profile with a location so we know where in the country you might be

Re: Big end!!
Basically i bought it from a lady and it hadnt been used for 8 years because her garage told her the big end had gone so i managed to get it running and it was fine for a while now its freed up its knocking quite badly and it does it as soon as you start it.
how can i go about checking oil pressure?? and no the light doesn't come on but a good oil change is deffo worth a try i think
Cheers

Re: Big end!!
Could also be rod knock, this is when the gudgeon pin through the con rod gets worn, Its not a bad job to do if the con rod is ok.
Have you taken the plugs out and turned the engine over by hand?
If you get any slop or knocking when turning over by hand its more likely to be top end, bottom end usually only makes noise when engine is firing and loaded, another way to tell if its big end is does the knocking get heavier when going up hill.
