Having just suffered a cam belt tensioner failure, resulting in cam belt losing its teeth and piston/valve contact, bent valves etc. I am about to fit a replacement cylinder head assembly.
Can anyone advise how tight the new cam belt should be, is there a tool for tensioning it and measuring the tension ?
1.9 TD AAZ engine
cheers

Re: Cam belt tension
I have allways worked to the rule of:-
"when you can just twist the bet through 90 degrees along it's longest run thats about right"
I have never had a belt fail on me after using that (that includes Ducati's using Renault clio cambelts too!!)

Re: Cam belt tension
My engine uses the newer style pulley which has the tension indicator built in. You could use possibly use one on your engine or just have a tweak on my belt to see if they feel about the same.

I should have mentioned it's when you can just twist it using only your finger and thumb not your whole hand/pair of pliers/other!
