Thermostat housings, What's the deal?

Post by beelzibus »

Are they all the same? 1.9 and 2.1? Are Syncro ones different? What goes wrong with them, are they available still?
Cheers.

2wd 1.9 early and late type completely different front/rear of engine
late 1.9 and 2.1 differ in number of spigots, 2.1 has extra one for take off for oil cooler circuit
syncro one different again extra spigot for balance pipe and made of alloy with threaded tstat senders instead of push in with o ring and secure with funny clip type on 2wd
spigots break off, the threaded inserts rust and expand and break the grp , the inserts for the bolts get corroded with the bolt in situ, generally getting old now, they were only meant to last 10 years
2.1 and syncro obsolete from vw, not sure about 1.9 one

Blimey, quite a few differences then. How much is a good Syncro 2.1 one worth then, any idea?
