oil for a turbo diesel

Hi all

apologies if this is answered somewhere else but the search engine doesn't seem to be working.

we've got a 1988 westfalia camper. It's got the 1.6 turbo diesel engine. I'm trying to work out what oil we need to buy. The guy we bought it off said we needed 15w/40 diesel oil. However, Halfords didn't have any and said we'd be ok with 10w/40.

I've also looked on the Castrol site and their search engine says that the "1.6 Diesel Turbo, -Syncro (Transporter Type 2) 1985 - 1991" needs "Magnatec Diesel 10W-40 B3".

Does anyone know if I need to source some 15w/40 or am I ok with the 10w/40?

In case you're ever stuck for oil out of reach of brickwerks' supply chain ...any 10W40 with a note on the label that it's passed VW norm 50500 will do just dandy.
