DJ Engine ign timing check conditions.

Post by wasserleaker »

bit of conflicting info about the timing check conditions in the Haynes manual and Brooklands manual.....
both say remove connectrs from idle stab. unit and join together, both say disconnect yellow connector on coil wire,
then regarding the dist vacuum pipes the brooklands book says remove the vac retard hose, haynes says disconnect vacuum hose(s) from dist, which is correct? do you remove and plug both vac hoses from the dist, or just the vac retard one when checking timing?
cheers for any help.

personally i remove both vacs from the dizzy and block the vac pipes so the fuel regulator maintains pressure and no air leak to plenum chamber
i find plastic golf tees good for bungs, yellow ones are nice and visible too to remind you reconnect everything
